SMART Goal Library

A S.M.A.R.T. goal is defined as one that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-focused, and Time-bound. These types of performance goals help provide structure and guidance throughout the annual performance cycle, ensure constructive and ongoing communication between employees and managers, and better identify what an employee must accomplish during the year to receive a successful evaluation and performance rating.

Every university employee is assigned a job that matches the duties and responsibilities they are expected to perform at a given level throughout the year. VCU's job summary tool is organized by job, job series, and job family. There are 18 job families at VCU. When using version 1.0 of the SMART Goal Library which is available for employees to reference and use, please feel free to review your job title in another job family to help you create your SMART goals for your manager’s review and approval. Please also find a link to the SMART Goal Submission form to submit any new goals you create which will support version 2.0 of the library.
