Separating faculty and staff

Departments must separate employees in a timely manner to ensure proper internal controls and good business operations as part of VCU’s Enterprise Risk Management Program, VCU’s Code of Conduct and the state’s Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICS). Use the checklists below to document separation actions. To comply with state and university policies and procedures, this checklist must be completed; signed by the employee, manager and HR representative; and returned to VCU Human Resources through ImageNow within the pay period in which the employee separates employment. If this form is not completed and returned within the specified timeframe, the department will be charged $200.

Please find all separating employment checklists for faculty and staff, non-benefitted hourly employees, and death in service on the "Forms" page

Exit interviews

HR professionals or associates will send separating employees the link to the respective online exit survey, as soon as employees submit their notice of departure to their supervisors.

The exit survey is designed to obtain input from exiting employees regarding supervision, working conditions, benefits, training and promotional opportunities within their unit and the university, etc. Employees also are encouraged to offer suggestions in areas they feel could be improved. Responses to these surveys are important and valuable to the university. VCU employees are strongly encouraged to participate.

Responses are confidential and are not included in employees' personnel files. VCU Human Resources reviews staff responses to monitor trends in employee satisfaction. The Office of the Provost reviews and monitors survey responses for faculty. Before submitting the survey, employees can indicate if they wish to speak directly with a member of the VCU Human Resources Office of Employee Relations.
